Overview
Traditional measuring tapes and tools face several challenges: limited accuracy due to human error, physical wear and tear, and bulkiness. They require manual recording, are difficult to read in low-light conditions, and are inefficient for complex tasks. Additionally, they don't integrate well with digital systems and lack advanced features, highlighting the need for more innovative solutions.
Process
Throughout these weeks, we researched & implemented the double diamond design process. This involves thoroughly examining the functional aspects of these products, identifying problem areas and opportunities for improvement, designing effective solutions, & ultimately developing and implementing a working prototype & final product.

Discovery
Types of Tape Measures:

Spring Return Tape Measure: The most commonly used type, available in lengths of 3, 5, or 10 meters, ideal for everyday tasks.

Long Tape Measure: Designed for extended measurements, these come in lengths ranging from 25 to 500 meters, making them essential for large-scale projects requiring precision over long distances.
Challenges with Traditional Measuring Tools:

Accuracy Issues: Prone to human error in reading measurements, leading to inconsistencies.

Durability Concerns: Susceptible to wear and tear, such as bending or stretching, which compromises reliability.

Bulkiness: Difficult to carry, especially for professionals needing frequent use.

Manual Recording: Time-consuming and prone to errors during data entry.

Visibility Limitations: Hard to read in low-light conditions or by individuals with poor eyesight.

One-Dimensional Functionality: Requires multiple measurements for complex tasks, adding inefficiency.

Need for Innovation:
The limitations of traditional tools highlight the demand for advanced solutions that improve accuracy, portability, and efficiency. Features like digital integration, automatic angle or area measurements, and improved durability could significantly enhance the measuring process.

Linear Measurement : Making sure that the measurements are digital and without any inaccuracies.

Recordings: No need for two people or a notepad for noting down measurements.

Converting units: "On the go" conversion of units of measurements.

No tape: Having a measure tape limited the exploration

Introducing, messen a smart way of measuring during your site surveys, messen makes it convenient for the user to keep track of all the data that is collected during the work as well as every work is digitized and accurate.

How does it work?

Hold the device facing towards the wall or any object.
2.
Adjust the dial according to the required units of measurement.
3.
Press the trigger to record and save the measurements in the app.
Key Learning & Conclusion
This project introduced me to the double diamond design process, providing insight into its universal application and detailed practice across various industries. Made me experienced in working in a collaborative team setting, I learned to divide my research into different perspectives, enhancing my understanding of collaboration. This experience also taught me about quantitative and qualitative research methods and 3D exploration.
