Pea-ler
Simple Product Design . 3D Exploration
My Role :Â
Product Designer
Duration :Â
4 weeks
Goal :Â
Simple product design is the process of imagining, creating, and iterating products that solve users' problems or address specific needs in a given market.
Tools :Â
Fusion 360, Keyshot
Solution :Â
The idea is to design a home tool that can solve the problem of peeling pea pods without any mess.
Overview
Peeling pea pods can be a messy and time-consuming task. The existing methods often leave pea shells scattered around & damage the peas themselves.

How might we ?....
Design a pea pod peeler that is simple, effective, mess-free, and appeals to a broad range of users?
Insights
1.
Faster Meals, Tighter Budget: Peeling peas steals precious time in Indian kitchens often done by mothers or grandmothers. The ideal tool needs to be quick and affordable for budget-conscious cooks.
2.
Adaptability to Traditional Techniques: Many Indian cooks might have established methods for peeling peas, like using their fingernails or a small knife. The peeler should be adaptable to these existing techniques or offer a similar level of user comfort.
3.
Multi-functionality & Easy Cleaning: kitchens often prioritize multipurpose tools due to space limitations. Explore if the peeler can be adapted for other vegetables commonly used in Indian cuisine, like green beans or okra. Easy cleaning with readily available materials like water and dish cloths is important.
Concept Development
Keeping in mind the ergonomics of the product with reference to the users fingers. Did some initial sketches and exploration.

Prototype Iteration
The material was silicone which would make sure that its easily fit in any finger other then the thumb.

Final Concept

About
The pea-ler has a metal blade which is completely harmless and which is sharp enough to peel off peas and making sure you don't hurt your fingers

How do you use it
1.
Hold a pea pod in your hand
2.
Put the pea-ler in any finger comfortable
3.
Slice the pea pod and open it up
4.
Once the pod is open push your thumb or any finger and push the peas in the container.

Key Learning & Conclusion
My learning from simple product design includes an introduction to the importance of user-centered design, prioritizing functionality and ease of use, and focusing on the core needs of the user. I have gained insights into thinking from a focused perspective, which helped me understand an early form of the design process, including iterating based on user feedback.
